Amy, may I ask roughly what you paid for your camera? I'm in the market for a new one. I have a Fuji Finepix 3x zoom that is ancient. The lighting has to be just right to get a decent macro shot - sooo frustrating for the snail obsessed I want really good macro capabilities without paying an arm & a leg

Sure, It was $200.00, and well worth every penny. I love it. Considering most digital cameras are over $100.00 anyway, I thought it was an awesome bargain.

That's a great price. I was afraid I'd have to spend $400 for a really good one.

That's what I thought too, but when I saw how functional the Fuji was, I fell in love with it. I really trust Fuji cameras, every one I've ever had has been very well made and reliable.

I have always heard good things about the Fuji brand. At the moment I've only got a camera phone, and not even a very nice one at that - terrible for trying to get snail pictures! Oh well. Your pictures are great, keep up the good work! =)

Thank you SnailDerp. I use my phones camera from time to time, for quick shots when my camera is out of reach, so I know what you mean about quality. You can find a really cheap camera right now, since Kodak stopped camera production, all Kodak cameras have been on clearance, some in my area under $50!

You catch some funny moments. I wish I could catch better pictures of my babies, but the tank is covered in algae for them. I still don't know if this new Canon has manual focus settings. The macro doesn't seem to work very well on the babies. I miss my old Canon.

Clean the algae off, the apple snails don't care for it that much, they prefer algae pellets anyway. They can also get their algae from the gravel and ornaments. When using the macro setting, don't rely on the zoom, get close with the camera. Make sure the subject is in focus, not the background. That sometimes is the hardest part as most cameras seem to want to focus on the largest object in its view, which is the background. I will use my zoom when its needed, but most of the time I get better shots by taking the camera as close to the subject as possible without losing picture quality. As far as catching funny moments, thank you, but really its just that between the daily cooking and cleaning, I spend my free time watching sailevision. with my camera beside me.

Yeah that's how I have to do with the crabs. There is just isn't anything on the walls of the tank to obscure the camera's vision hehe. I have to change water today so I will clean the algae off as much as I can while I am doing that. I'm always afraid I will hurt one of the babies because they are so small.
