How do I post photos? Here are the answers.

Here are some general guidlines for pictures as well as some links. Feel free to add your own information to this thread.

For free picture hosting that allows direct linking
http://www.photobucket.com
Another one that can upload any type of file
http://www.ripway.com

For free picture resizing software that has been highly recommended by nannasmom
http://www.irfanview.com/

Pictures posted in a message should be less than 15K if possible out of respect for those on dial up. You can always post a thumbnail of the photo with a link to the larger picture. If you can't figure out how to do this and need to show a picture go ahead and post what you have. You can always resize it later if needed.

The smaller your picture the easier it is for everyone to download it and therefore give you help or comments on your post.

Picture Taking Tips
People often ask how to get clear pictures. These are just some basic tips.

Take the picture with the snail in the aquarium. That normally provides the best lighting and coloring. This may not be true for everyone.

If your camera has a macro setting use it (normally a picture of a flower will show on your display)

If you can -- direct light onto the subject and avoid the flash, you will get a better picture unless you have a really good camera that can absorb the reflective glare from the flash on glass.

Clean the glass on the tank.

Posting the Photo

The url address to your picture will look something like this.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v113/ ... uction.jpg

That link would go inside the image tags [img]that%20url%20would%20go%20here[/img]

After doing that the actual photo would appear when you hit preview or submit.

Here are 2 tutorials by Crystalrose that have been very helpful to many memebers.

Thanks for posting that, I'm sure it will help clear up the boards! Not that we don't all love to help. :D

Another one I use is ripway.com, which allows you to upload any type of file.

I bet CrystalRose would also be willing to help. She is awesome with the picture posting and really knows her stuff...I asked her a few questions about it and she made up a couple step-by-step tutorials complete with pictures showing the different screens at photobucket and what to click/enter, etc. I'm glad this topic came up so I could give her a public thanks for going out of her way to help me!! :D

Thanks Tammy!

Aim

You're welcome aimless. :) now you've made me all blushy  hehe.

Here are the links to the tutorials I made for aimless terri. The first one shows how to upload a picture to photobucket and the second one is how to add a picture to your post here. Hope they help :)

Thanks to you all!

Everything helped! I downloaded and reduced the size. The tutorial really helped. I seem to need the simple step by step directions. Later I'll try adding the picture of my dog to that thread. She will most likely be so tiny she will look like a stuffed toy!

I am very pleased.

Thanks again, Purrr

OK, I'm really frustrated now :toomuch: I downloaded the recommended irfanview thingy for resizing pics, and after a very long time I finally figured out how to get my pics smaller. Then when I went to add them to a post, it wouldn't accept them! It said someting about a bmp (whatever that is). Does anyone have any suggestions to get it to work? I'm very computer-challenged, so laymans terms would be very beneficial. Thanks!
