WARNING: The following contains a graphic/sad story of the death of my snail.

Today I was doing a regular tank cleaning when I noticed my black mystery snail. He was tightly in his shell for a few days now but I figured he was okay. Anyway, I saw that his trapdoor fell off. I hesitantly lookEd inside his shell and what I find sickens/saddens me. His body was liquid with small clumps floating out of the interior of his shell. I quickly toke him out and put him in a garbage bag and threw him out (I feel bad that I didn't burry him now that I look back). I cleaned the tank and got all the nasty stuff out. The other fish (5 Orange Von Rio Tetras) are all doing perfect. My other golden mystery snail is doing fine too. I bought the gold and black snails at the same time nearly 1.5 years ago. They were my first aquatic pets.

I'm sorry to hear he passed away. But he lived a long life for a captive Apple snail; their average lifespan is twelve to fourteen months.
