RIP Rolo

Postby Chickadee on Fri Jul 06, 2012 3:18 pm

Last night Rolo lost his battle with the fissure crack. He was one of two snails that my co-worker let me pick out for my birthday in early April. I chose him because I wanted a wild striped and because he was not moving and looked ill. I wanted to give him a good home. He came around and was doing well for awhile, until the fissure crack appeared. I feel guilty that I didn't do more for him sooner. He was getting plenty of calcium and it always looked like it was healing up, but it never did completely.

RIP Rolo, you were a handsome and gentle little snail.

I'm so sorry you lost Rolo, Chickadee. I can't remember, do you have any babies that he fathered?

Thanks Bree & Little Mulligan.

Nope, he never showed interest in mating. I watched a blue snail mate him, which made me question if he was really a girl, although he sure looked male to me. So I'm not sure what that was about :-? I know it stunned him and set him back for a few days. That's why I wanted to put him in the other tank. But the ramshorns swarmed him, probably because they knew he was dying. So he died alone in a little bowl where he was at least left in peace. I buried him under the bird bath in my rock garden.

I'm so sorry to hear about Rolo, I know how much you loved him. Don't feel guilty, you did everything you could for him, and most importantly, you loved him, like a family member, you cared for him, he couldn't have asked for a better mom. And you buried him under the birdbath, that is the sweetest thing I've heard of.
My name is Amy, and I am addicted to apple snails.

I'm so sorry :( I had been reading your earlier posts and was hoping he'd pull through. It was Rolo's time to go to snail heaven, but I'm sure he was thankful for the home you gave him.
