Now tell me that Canas won't eat willow roots and I'll have something to try!

Willow roots? Yum! They eat plastic plants for gods sake. Put them in a media bag (the willow, not the snail  ) and let the snail have what comes out.

Or one could put the willow roots into the back of a big HOB filter I suppose! If they truly drain Nitrates that quickly I'm going to be off looking for a willow tree.

I don't suppose a "Pussy Willow" bush would have the same effect? I've got one of those on this property.

I tried doing the willow branch thing and it actually created green water! The branches barely sprouted roots and I think the started to decay before they did much good. My canas didnt eat them though. I'm not gonna try the willow branch thing anymore but it shouldnt stop other people from seeing if it works. I used new branches off a small tree, probably only 8 feet tall. Maybe branches from a large tree are required or maybe willows in Iowa suck at sucking up nitrates.

*gasp* they remove nitrate! but willows dont grow this far north :(, i suppose oneday if someone takes a trip to toowoomba or somewhere south i might be able to get the to get me some, i remember wonderful willow trees in some places, ive always liked them very much, but i wonder how they are faring in the drought.

Willow experiment

Postby AnotherSusan on Tue Jul 10, 2007 1:50 pm

I have put willow branches from a corkscrew willow into my tub pond outdoors and into one of my 10 gallon baby snail tanks. I used 2 branches in the tub and 1 in the tank. It will be interesting to see what happens.

She must of called them while I had her locked in the trunk on the way to my place.. people act funny when you grab them off the street and through them in your trunk.

I was just trying to clear up my water. i don't see what all the fuss was about
