Applesnail Genetics

Postby marcelomelloramos on Sat Dec 15, 2012 12:51 am

Good evening.
My name is Marcelo, I am Brazilian and recently imported from Europe two varieties that do not exist in Brazil, Pomacea Blue and Purple. We only have the Yellow .. I also have an aquarium forum called "Forum Amor de Peixe" ( http://www.forumamordepeixe.com.br )

I have many questions.

Considering the three types, Yellow, Blue and Purple. Who is dominant and who is recessive in shell color and body color?

What better way to create varieties:
Yellow shell and Body Puple (or Blue)
Concha Purple (or Blue) and Yellow Body

Already got crossed with a female Purple Yellow males, puppies are still very small but apparently they are all yellow, this means that yellow is the dominant color for the body and the shell. It's Correct?

There Applesnail Albina, for example, Albina Applesnail Yellow, Blue Applesnail Albina, Applesnail Purple Albina, etc..? I do not know if "albina" is the correct term in English but I am speaking of RREA (Real Red Eyed Albino).

Hello and welcome to the site! Brown or wild type is the most dominate with dark foot color being dominate also. Diffusa come in a variety of colors such as yellow, jade, blue, ivory, light striped purple, dark striped purple, wild, etc. Here's a link to the color calculator so you can play around with it a bit. It will help show which parents bring what offspring, or hatchlings.

Hello Is there any place where you can see the various types? For example, what is the difference between:
Ivory
LSP
Purple Plain
Striped purple

And the others described in the program you gave me?

Use the "Google images" and many of the names that has put the same types.

The images from my link work just fine from my computer so maybe something is blocked through your server. The good news is the second link you posted is very similar to my link with the same pics and layout. The color chart is one I assembled for an old snail calendar. Hope it helps. You can look through the member photo section for some more pictures if that helps.
