Breeding / Colors question

Postby LvsSunDrop on Thu Feb 03, 2005 2:44 am

Does anyone have a compilation... or know where I could find one... of basic breeding and color "rules"? In other words, can anyone point me in the direction of something or someone (Donya?) that could tell me what color(s) of babies you may get if you breed parent of color A with parent of color B. I know there are lots of conditions and exceptions to the rule, but I was wondering if there were any basic rules of thumb?

Thanks so much!

Hi Shannon,

I asked the same question a while back and got directed to this:

I can't remember who made it but it's very useful. :D

WOW! It's extremely helpful! Thanks, Janet. Its absolutely amazing to see the possible color combinations. Whoever put that together sure did put a lot of work into it!

Maybe one of the moderators should sticky it?

That's the color chart I did, but it's a bit out of date at this point. It still serves its general purpose though...just know that it's not the be-all and end-all of color inheritance for Pomacea bridgesii. I found the whole list layout thing is kind of awkward, so if you just want to plug in 2 random colors and know what the possibilities are, I have a java program (for Java 1.4.1) available on the downloads part of my snail website: http://free.hostultra.com/~applesnails. That of course assumes you have a JRE and everything on your computer, which can be a pain to set up if you don't already have java working.

I think the charts are just fine, Donya. I didn't have any trouble with reading them. I just wanted a basic idea on inheritance for color. I think I tried using your program before, but since I have a Mac, it told me it wasn't compatible or something like that. :(

At any rate, I think its a good chart! Thanks again!
