Snail Abuse

Postby Kassidy411 on Wed Feb 02, 2011 4:36 am

Yup, snail abuse to my very own snail. Not done by humans, or anything living actually. My new filter. >.< She climbed on the intake, and half of her body was sucked into it, and she was stuck. In order to save her, we had to break my filter and buy another.

Using a pre-filter on the intake can help this problem. You'll have to rinse it frequently to keep it from getting clogged, but it helps save snail lives.

Actually it is better for the health of the snails if there is a filter in the tank unless you are able to do water changes every few days.

I'm sorry that happened. I use a large sponge filter (more filtration capacity than the tank size since snails are such big waste producers) in my snail tank, because I was paranoid about them getting sucked into the intake, or the flow being too much for them. But I still use a tank vacuum to clean out poop at least every other day (they seem to fluctuate in how much they "go").
