This is an unidentified Asolene species, if anyone knows more about this snails
or recognize this snails as being in a collection, it would be greatly appreciated
if you contact us (Stijn Ghesquiere or Fabio Faraco).
Shell: The shell is thick and heavy
and as wide is high (about 20 to 25 mm). The shell is oval in shape, with medium
sized spire.
The umbilicus is very narrow or even closed. The surface of the shell is slightly
rough
The colour is light brown with or without very fanit dark bands. The inside
of the shell is very dark brown to black.

Body: The base of the foot is grey, without spots, while the dorsal part
of the foot and the head area are covered with dark pigmented spots.
Eggs: Laid below the water surface on objects or vegetation, packed in
a gelatinous clutch. The shape of the eggs is rather unusual compared with the
aquatic eggs in other species like Marisa cornuarietis.
While the eggs of Marisa cornuarietis are round, the eggs of Asolene
sp. are 'drop-shaped'.
Distribution: Southeastern of Brasil: Guaiba Lake, Rio Grande do Sul
State.
