Shell: The shell of the medium sized
(55-59 mm wide, 43-47 mm high) African species has a relatively high spire (about
1/2 of the aperture hight) and a round shell opening (aperture). The umbilicus
is small, but deep and the lip somewhat thickened.
The colour varies from light brown to reddish olive with faint, non-contineous,
spiral bands.
Operculum: 1.5 to 1.7 higher than wide and calcified.

Eggs: The eggs calcareous, white eggs are deposited above the waterline.
Food: Various water plants.
Behaviour: Prefers stagnant water (swamps, flood-planes).
Distribution: Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, eastern Congo, Nile from the Victoria lake
to Egypt, isolated populations in Sudan.
